About Us
ConvertSmartly.click began with a spreadsheet and a frustrated group chat. A handful of us had just changed jobs, moved states, or picked up 1099 work, and every single one of us was blindsided by the difference between the salary we were promised and the paycheck we received. The internet was full of paycheck calculators, but most either buried the actual math behind a wall of ads or spat out a net figure with no explanation of how it got there. We wanted something plainer: tools that show the withholding, the FICA, the state tax, and the retirement contributions as separate, readable lines, the way a good pay stub should.
So we built this site specifically for American employees and hourly workers. Not investors, not travelers exchanging currency abroad, and not crypto traders. Just people who get a W-2 or a gig check and want to understand it. That narrow focus is deliberate. It means every calculator here speaks the language of US payroll: gross-to-net, marginal versus effective rates, time-and-a-half overtime, supplemental bonus withholding, and state-by-state take-home. If a tool would not help a nurse working overtime in Ohio or a designer freelancing in Austin, it does not belong here.
I am the editor who reviews the copy and the calculation logic on ConvertSmartly. My background is in payroll and HR support, which mostly means I have answered the "why is my check smaller than last month" question more times than I can count. My promise is that every tool explains itself in plain English, without the jargon that makes payroll feel deliberately confusing. We update the tax logic as brackets and FICA thresholds change each year, and we test each calculator against real pay stubs before it goes live.
If you spot a number that looks off, have a paycheck scenario we do not cover yet, or just want to suggest a calculator, write to us at [email protected]. Reader questions genuinely shape what we build next, and a surprising number of our tools started as one confused email about a single strange paycheck.
